My Butterfly, by Kimberly de Montbrun

I long to feel the soft weight of you
to welcome you home, with kisses
on silky round cheeks.

Instead my arms ache with the
weight of your absence,
the empty places that were meant for you
to grow into.

My love for you will last an eternity.
My hopes and dreams now carried
on the fragile wings of each butterfly passing
compelling me to pause,
to savor each moment,

each flutter in my heart,
your wings.

Love the part about the cheeks. And the weight. Perfectly stated.

Have been thinking about your family a lot lately. I have just been wanting to give you a big hug and take some of your burden.

So touching! The part about the tangible, real pain of her baby's absence strikes me the most. Ms. de Montbrun draws a beautiful connection between the butterflies and the angel baby. I just wish that seeing butterflies somehow actually triggered immediate tangible experiences of holding each baby again forever. Though the absence is in fact temporary through Christ' Atonement and resurrection, it must feel like an eternal separation day-to-day. Thank you for so bravely and boldly baring your emotions to the world, Kelly. You are an extraordinary woman, in every sense of the word.
